The Message Featured

The goal of Peace During War Project is to reach out to two distinct and separate audiences with a perspective that can only come from the unique experiences of Michael Wilder and Yafinceio Harris and their time on the streets of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

In December 2011, they were featured on NPRs "The Story" and have since dedicated themselves to reaching out to at-risk and troubled teens, both in facilities and out, as well as the educators, counselors, and other professionals they encounter daily.

A Welcome From Yafinceio Harris

Hello, my name is Yafinceio Harris. I would like to thank you all for visiting our page Peace During War (PDW). Here at PDW we dedicated and destined to save the lives of our youth. PDW has set out on a path to interact with the youth and help to change the mind set of those who glorify the street life. These prisons and streets have claimed enough lives of our fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, cousins, aunts and uncles that we shall not allow the system or the streets to continue to swallow our generations of family and friends without an effort to fight back.

A Welcome From Michael Wilder

Hello, my name is Michael Wilder, I would like to welcome you to Peace During War. My partner and I have dedicated our lives to saving the lives of our youth. When a young man kills someone, our reaction is sadness and anger. Give him life we scream! This method is clearly not slowing down the murder rate. What about the young shooter? What goes on inside the head of a young shooter? What can we do to recognize young shooters and try to intervene in their lives and save them from themselves.

From Indictment to Enlightenment

Michael Wilder and Yafinceio Harris, as guest speakers, visit the Youth Advancement Academy to share their unique story and to make a positive impact on the youth of Kalamazoo county.
